The Consumer Products Safety Commission has changed the regulations regarding children's jewelry. 

 It is now illegal to sell rhinestones to any child under age 13.  The Commission recognizes that lead crystal rhinestones are safe; if swallowed, less lead could be absorbed by the body than from most metals approved by The Commission.  The Commissioners stated that they were forced to vote against allowing crystals because of the limiting way the law was written by Congress. 

 We agree with Commissioner Nancy Nord, who wrote:   “While our decision was required by the new law, it does not advance consumer safety, limits consumer choice and imposes unnecessary economic burdens on small businesses trying to survive in a troubled economy. Common sense here means the law needs to be changed.”

 It may be a bad law, but it is the law.  We are re-tooling to provide lead-safe alternatives for our children.  Every item we ship conforms to the new rules for lead content in children's jewelry.
